Instagram, the photo-enhancement app for iPhone, announced today that they had passed the 150 million photos-taken benchmark.
Above is the photo, taken by @janefot, which took the number 150,000,000 spot.
According to the announcement:
- 7 million people have used Instagram to share photos
- 15 photos are uploaded on Instagram every second
- That means 1.3 million photos per day
Instagram launched on October 6, 2010, chalking up these impressive statistics in less than 11 months.
Here’s what the blog announcement said:
We’re constantly amazed by the range of photos shared on Instagram. People use Instagram to snap photos of everyday moments with friends and family and also to document significant personal moments, like weddings and honeymoons. There are Instagram photos from major events like the World Series and the Grammys, and some Instagram photos have even made the national news. Artists and celebrities have begun to give fans a unique look into their lives through photos, while brands like Burberry have started to realize the power of communicating with their followers through images.
In June of this year, TechCrunch pointed out that Instagram had hit 5 million users. The fact that two months later at least 2 million more people use the service attests to the apps wild growth and popularity.
Another stat pointed out by TechCrunch: 80 percent of Instagram photos apply filters.
