For the past few years, we’ve written about communication technology. It’s been an interesting journey, covering Apple, Google, the rise of the tablet computer, the decline of RIM. We’ve learned about and educated our audience on everything from net neutrality to the drawbacks of communication overload.
But recently we did a little soul searching and realized that the coverage of communication technology was getting repetitive and, well, boring. There are dozens of good blogs out there that can keep a person abreast of gadgets and startups and new Facebook developments. We wanted to write about something fresh and exciting.
And that’s when it hit us. What could be more exciting than adventures? Excitement is practically baked into the word, as an adventure is any experience that is unusual, risky. Adventure is all about discomforting yourself, conquering new terrain, overcoming fear. And so, we thought, why not take a little adventure of our own?
We made a few tweaks to the site, did some research, and decided to make the change. From this day forth, SignalNews will be a site devoted to bringing the world news about adventure travel.
Here is a quick rundown of our new categories and what you can expect from each:
Adventurers – The world is full of adventurers–people who are passionate about going into unfamiliar terrain, about exploring and learning and pushing their limits–you just have to know where to look for them. For the adventures category, we will seek these people out and write their stories, tell about their quests.
Events – Often in the realm of adventure travel there are different events, such as the Baja 1,000, the Iditarod, or big adventure races. We will cover these and file them here, under events.
Expeditions - Expeditions are journeys or voyages which are made for specific purposes, such as scientific exploration, charting new climbing routes, or conquering new summits. Such stories will be filed under this category.
Gear and Tips – In this category, we will showcase our favorite adventure travel gear, from clothes to gizmos, as well as give tips on traveling, adventure, and life.
Reviews – This section will provide reviews and commentary on media that centers on adventure, such as books, movies, and documentaries.
Urban Adventures – In this column we will strive to bring adventure to city dwellers. Adventure is any experience that is unique and new. That in mind, we will seek adventures that people can take or have taken within the bounds of an urban landscape.
Communication – The communication category is our archive of technology news.
