Mountain Biking Expedition Explores the Himalayas

Six years ago Dave “Mushypea” Turner heard of a mysterious valley in the Himalayas called the Shambhala. An avid adventure cyclist, Turner decided then and there that he wanted to seek the Shambhala out.

In Tibetan-adventurist lore, the Shambhala is the place where James Hilton got the model for Shangri-la, the Tibetan monastery that he depicted in his 1930′s novel Last Horizon.

About a year and a half ago, Turner set off on his mountain bike from China and traversed the entire ridge of the Himalayas in search of the Shambhala. His journey took him 15 months.

You can read about it and see a wealth of pictures on Alastair Humphreys’s adventure blog and get more details on Dave “Mushypea” Turner’s own site, Mushypea.net.
