Skype in the Classroom Makes Education Global

Skype announced a social community today of educators and students that can connect around the globe via the company’s VoIP video conferencing service.

Skype in the Classroom is an online tool that’s built around connecting teachers with one another.

“If you’re a teacher, it’s a place where you can connect with other educators according to your interests, the age group you teach or location, and find partner classes or guest speakers to join projects you’re working on,” according to Skype’s blog. “There are already over 3900 teachers around the world signed up and using the tool, so you’ll be in good company. As an added bonus you can share and find a wealth of knowledge and inspiration in the resources area.”

Teachers can sign up for Skype’s online tool using their existing accounts at no additional cost. They can then connect with one another to help develop lesson plans which span across cultures and bring students from around the world together.

At the time of this writing there are 5,285 teachers, 79 projects, and 330 resources that users can interact with and learn from.
